Let's be real, most resorts or businesses say they're "eco friendly" for using paper straws or recycling, but that's not putting a dent in it.
Have you ever seen a paper mill? Not exactly clean. And more than half of all "recycled" plastic goes to the landfill.
Almost everything humans do has a carbon footprint and everything we do to reduce it is a bandaid.
We don't like bandaids. We like solutions.
Which means reinventing the way we live with nature, with each other and with ourselves. We are nature after all.
Permaculture is an approach to land management and design based on what is observed in flourishing natural ecosystems.
It can turn barren desert into lush green oasis, bringing life back to the land for thousands of years after we’re gone.
A forest left alone will take 100 years to build 1 inch of soil. With human involvement and proper grazing systems we can build 1 inch of soil every year–100x faster.
When you come to The Mountaintop you're a part of hard hitting solutions.

Help bring back over 40 species of trees and rest among the food forests
Walking the land you may find massive stumps from times past, when our forests were teeming with biodiversity.
BC has some of the world’s worst logging practices, taking too much and replanting only 1-3 species behind them.
We’re bringing back the over 40 species native to our area and planting food forests, creating new habitats for wildlife that will outlast all of us.
Wild strawberries by your feet, the smell of mint and sage as you pick some, cherries and apples overhead, and maybe your first taste of honeyberry.
Your weekend home rests among these new living sanctuaries–which only seems right since you're helping create them.

A network of 30+ ponds will hold over 200 million litres of water, giving life to the land and all that dwells on it until the next ice age

Logging removes the lands ability to retain water. Traditional farming uses straight rows that create water runoff. No water means no wildlife, which means no droppings to build soil.
Creeks turn into seasonal drips as aquifers dry up. Wildfires increase.
In this desert alpine climate the majority of the water comes during only 4 months of the year, in the form of snow.
Our network of ponds and swales will slow down runoff and store it for year-round use, gravity feeding gardens, orchards and one of the largest natural wildfire defence systems.
The water will build up subterraneanly to replenish aquifers and turn seasonal springs back to thriving streams.
The ponds are home to new aquatic habitats that grow 30x faster than life on land.
They create microclimates with increased humidity and sun exposure from the waters reflection, increasing the diversity of what can grow here.
And they also make great swimming holes! We're currently on pond #6.
Choose The Mountaintop and become apart of core solutions that the world desparately needs.
These powerful grazers combined with management that mimic nature can build soil 100x faster than a forest left alone
Depending on the time of year and whether our four-legged friends are out to pasture, your stay on The Mountaintop may include visits from highland cattle, heritage breed chickens, and potentially even bunnies or ducks.
These are our partners in building soil and providing sustainable food for our community.
Though small, we are, in fact, an operational farm. Please be aware of our animals, the tractor going to and fro making sure they're fed, and our livestock guardians.
This is their home and they have a job to do, as do we. You'll receive information during the booking about how to ensure you're respecting their space, and what to expect.
